Dr. James Nussbaum
Clinical Director, Physical Therapist

Dr. James Nussbaum is the Clinical Director of ProHealth & Fitness, PT, PC, a rehabilitation organization offering outpatient and home based Physical and Occupational Therapy services in the New York City area. Dr. Nussbaum graduated Cum Laude from Touro College of Health Sciences in 1999 with highest academic achievement, with a Masters in Physical Therapy, and earned a PhD in Physical Education and Exercise Science in 2001 from Cambridge State University with a focus on Pathokinesiology and Injury Prevention. In 2000 Dr. Nussbaum founded ProHealth's education division, where continuing education is provided for healthcare practitioners by leaders in rehabilitation, focusing on Evidence Based Practice. He has lectured to Teachers, Executives, Physicians, Osteopaths, Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapists, Chiropractors, and Emergency Medicine professionals on a variety of topics including: Balance and Fall Prevention for Seniors, Peripheral Neuropathy; Functional Improvements, ACL Injury Prevention, Therapeutic Exercise: Program Design-Beyond 3x10, Emergency Response in the Rehabilitation Setting, The Mechanics of Lifting, Aquatic Therapy Programming, Emergency Management in the Classroom, Strength Training for Seniors, and The ABCs of Athleticism. Dr. Nussbaum has been an instructor for the American Red Cross for more than 20 years and currently teaches CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, Water Safety, Sports Safety Training, Automated External Defibrillation, and Lifeguard Training. Dr. Nussbaum has been a volunteer New York and New Jersey State certified Emergency Medical Technician since 1989, where he has served the communities where he lived in Emergency response. Prior to returning to graduate school to pursue a degree in Physical Therapy, Dr. Nussbaum, worked for Johnson & Johnson as a Health and Fitness Specialist in the corporate fitness arena. He is a nationally certified Personal Trainer and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Over the past number of years Dr. Nussbaum has written and lectured on unique programming for patients with kidney disease.  He was invited to China to teach Nephrologists the ProHealth Renal Rehabilitation Program in Beijing, and lectured in Barcelona on the effects of this unique program on frail patients on hemodialysis.  Dr. Nussbaum written numerous articles and abstracts and has spoken nationally and internationally on his ongoing research related to fall prevention and patients with kidney disease.  Dr. Nussbaum is an avid athlete who has had both knees and one ankle reconstructed and personally knows rehabilitation.
